We are looking for exceptional, local talent.

From Scratch is a night of new writing, staged by local and up-and-coming directors and actors. Taking place on Saturday 1st February 2025 at the Place Theatre in Bedford, the night will showcase a series of short plays or scenes designed to show off our local talent to a packed-out audience.

Local voices are essential to bring From Scratch to life. Whether you're a budding playwright, a director with a vision, or an actor looking for your next (or first) stage opportunity, From Scratch is for you.

Playwrights

We're looking for short scripts of approximately 10 pages, from a variety of genres. Your script could be a standalone short play, or a scene from a longer piece. You do not need to have written for stage before; we simply ask that you channel your creativity & showcase your talent & passion as a writer.

We're on the hunt for new or established directors to take a script from page-to-stage. Your vision is crucial to bringing our playwrights words to life. Experience is not necessary; we simply ask that you commit to organising at least 3 rehearsals, plus attending a dress and tech rehearsal before the event itself.

If you've ever dreamed of bringing new work to life on stage, here's your opportunity. We're looking for actors to fully realise new characters & perform them, off-book, at our From Scratch event. You will need to attend at least 3 rehearsals with your director & cast, plus attend a dress & tech rehearsal before the event itself.
